Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you based and do you have a photography studio?

I am based in Kenilworth in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. I am a natural light photographer. All my sessions are done at location. I don’t usually use artificial light, with the exception of flash during events taking place after sunset or in very dim lighting conditions inside.

How do I prepare for a session with you with and what other details do I need to know?

Once you book a session with me, you will receive a document with preparation tips and necessary information to help you best prepare for a stress-free and enjoyable experience.

How early should I book my session?

Although sometimes I do take some last minute bookings, I suggest you book your sessions as soon as possible to ensure availability. I only take a limited amount of bookings per month to ensure that my clients receive the best service. I can take bookings several months in advance.

I prefer to book couple, family and portrait sessions at least 2-3 weeks in advance.

If you are interested in maternity and newborn sessions, it is best to contact me during your second trimester. We can make a tentative booking date for your newborn session as soon as you know your estimated due date. When your baby is born, you can contact me to arrange a suitable day for your session. Newborn sessions are best done before 10 days old.

The best time for maternity session is when you are between 28-36 weeks. If you choose to book a maternity session with your newborn session, we put both sessions on the calendar when you reserve the package.

Fresh 48 sessions may require a lot of paperwork and authorisation by hospitals, which takes time to prepare, so please make sure you book as early as possible.

How do I book and pay for my session?

You can contact me via Contact form or send me an email to alyonasmith.photo@gmail.com with all the relevant details. We will discuss the possible dates for your session and the package that will best suit your needs. Once you have decided to book your session, I will send you an invoice. The 50% deposit of the session fee is required to secure your special date. The remaining 50% is required at least 48 hours before your scheduled session. I accept electronic transfers only (EFT’s).

What happens if we need to reschedule?

In case of sickness, rain, fog or a strong wind, I suggest we reschedule the session to the first mutually available date possible.

When will I see my photos? Will I be able  to share and print my images from Facebook?

I usually post a sneak peak on Facebook within 48 hours of your session, unless you stipulate not to at the time of booking or during your session. Two to three weeks following your session the full gallery of images will be available to you online.

You will receive only the final and edited images, no RAW images will be shared. Each gallery includes two versions of each image: web-sized, watermarked files for digital usage and sharing online, and high-resolution versions for printing. Please note, that web-sized files will include a watermark to protect my work and your image from being stolen or misused, and they are not printable images. The high-resolution images are the ones that will be beautifully displayed in prints, albums, and other printed products.

Do you offer canvas prints / calendars / coffee table books / postcards / etc?

Yes I do. Please contact me for details.

What if I need a custom quote?

I do provide custom quotes for situations not covered by the packages. Please specify your needs and requirements if you are looking for a custom quote.
